Experimental Photography

 In its early days photography was a pure scientific and technical experiment.

The technical experiment has always been, and still is, an important drive for innovation in the search for an independent and personal language.

In the Twenties and Thirties the Surrealists gave a new elan to this experiment. But they weren't so innovative. They merely combined existing techniques. Their biggest innovation was the attribution of new content to the image, thus obtaining a very experimental language.

The experimental photography we present here, is drawn from our exhibition "Tatouage, sources of surrealistic photography" held in September 2003 in Breda, The Netherlands.

The techniques used are:

• the manipulated image (tatouage)
• the Paper negative print
• Micro-photography
