The Sky in Stereo views & Magic Lantern Slides
Lantern slides were often used in nineteenth century Astronomy courses. The slide projectors often used oxy-hydrogen or oxy-acetylene light sources, sometimes directing the flame towards a block of calcium chloride to produce a lime light.
The slides are hand painted on the reverse side and illustrated astronomical scenes. On the back of each design a circular wire holds a single sheet of glass against the wooden frame.
